1985 ford Bronco XLT 351w automatic 4x4. not getting a spark to the plugs, what could be wrong?

It's not getting a spark to the plugs. The ignition coil isn't bad, because it's getting a spark after the coil to the cap and not sure after that. Is there a way to test something to see whats wrong? I had a buddy look at it with me, and he said one of the wires in the distributor looked like they were twisted together, but I don't know anything about this stuff...any info and pictures of what it should look like would help me out ALOT! thank you for reading and I'll love a response. oh and it's NOT the kind of distributor with the capacitor in it...I forgot what it's called.
